Is a Strict Raw Food Diet the Best Diet?
9:49 am - December 26, 2009 | Posted By Linda in Low Fat RecipesWithout doubt, we all know that raw foods are the most superior foods on earth. They are full of nutrition, unadulterated and intact, as they are mean for us. Mother Earth gave them to us for consumption because they are grown naturally from the roots of earth.
We are attracted to them by smell, sight and taste. Raw foods taste delicious when they are fresh and good. For the fact that we don’t have a stove attached to our body when we are born, its common sense to deduce that human beings are meant to eat mostly, if not largely, a diet of raw foods. We have fingers to peel and break the fruits to eat. After we eat them and discard the seeds, reproduction continues.
So, is the raw food diet the ultimate best diet? For everyone? And every time?
Everything you read in this article and website, do not believe them, I urge you to try out on yourself and you will know the answer. Every single time I eat raw foods, without fail, (and its not my mind!), my cells sing with joy, my heart vibrates with peace and connection.
But every time I eat secondary foods, the discomfort can be pretty loud. The thing about raw foods is that the longer one eats raw foods, the more he is used to the feeling of light, joy and peace. And the moment this feeling is compromised, it becomes disturbingly obvious.
You may be thinking that I’m going all out to convince you to eat raw foods for life. Of course, in an ideal world under perfect situations, raw foods in their freshest and unadulterated forms are the best. But for the fact that we are still living in an imperfect world, we need to use common sense to make informed choices.
If I can get the best superior raw foods, I grab them. During my 3 years raw, of course there have been situations where its either raw or fast. There are some Gurus who choose to fast rather than eat cooked food.
My approach is different; in many cases it was not possible nor advisable to fast, so I opt for the next best foods, and if that’s not available, the next best and so on.
In Singapore, I’m lucky because as long as there is an open supermarket, there’s no problem getting raw foods. During occasions where raw is simply impossible, the next best is lightly steamed whole vegetables, followed by lightly blanched whole vegetables. The word ‘whole’ here is important because it determines how much additives, preservatives are in the food, and how much nutrition has been removed during cooking.
We need to bear in mind that raw foods are not all-superior as long as they are raw. A raw foodist eating imbalanced meals, like high fat, or over-concentrated on certain foods and not taking in others, can be doing more harm than good as compared to a balanced vegan eating 50% raw and 50% wholesome cooked food (steam or blanched). The key is to choose foods with the least nutrients destroyed, and least (zero if possible!) toxins added.
There are Gurus who say that you can live on breath, some say we only need sunshine and meditation, and also some who say that “All foods harm the body; raw foods simply does less”… While I’m still in the stage where I still need food to survive, I would just experiment to find the best combination ratio for my body, and I urge everyone else to do the same. Read and infer from Gurus, but make your own decision as to what is the best for yourself.
Because the best doctor is within everyone of us.
