Divine Durian Smoothie
1:27 pm - June 20, 2009 | Posted By Linda in Green SmoothiesIt’s the Durian season! Now is the time to dive into this awesome fruit because Mother Nature is harvesting them naturally for us
Packed with vitamins and anti-oxidants, raw food guru David Wolfe calls it a Superfood. Personally, I think its taste and flavor is amazing enough to be called Super, nutrition is simply icing on the cake!
Although Durians are my biggest weakness, I usually only eat them when it is truly in season, which is now! The reason is because Durians are usually grown with heavy chemical fertilizers, and I develop unpleasant allergies to them.
How do I pick my reliable natural/organic Durian mongers?
1) I go only for the small ones.
2) I keep away from the really expensive and high end ones, because these are the ones which always give me a terrible time after eating!
3) If it is a new monger, I try just 1 or 2 seeds first. The heat which is experienced should pass fairly quickly - in 1 hour or so. If the heat is ’stuck’ and I feel it rising to my head, then it means something is present in there which does not agree with my body, and I keep away.
4) This is my favorite - whenever there is a chance, observe the flies and ants nearby! If they are swarming over eagerly and stay, I do too! Even if there are some chemicals used, it won’t be that many.
Of course, these are not going to be fool-proof, but at least they are some precaution steps. We already live in a world where too many chemicals are used for our own good; let’s try our best not to let them into our body too.
And even if we cannot avoid ALL of them, making an effort to minimize and avoid them will surely benefit us.
To end this short post, here’s a simple Durian Smoothie recipe for you
3C Durian Flesh
1C Ripened Red Dragon Fruit (Cubed and Frozen)
1C Greens(any green leaves except water-cress and radish tops)
1/2C Coconut Juice
Blend away and enjoy! This is a great way to squeeze extra greens into your diet in an awesome smoothie; both the greens and coconut juice will balance some of the heat from Durians.
See you in Durian-Land
Luv from Linda

Hi,
Great post about Durian! I wonder if you’ve ever heard of a great tasting and affordable new Royal Superfruit juice which includes Durian, Mangosgteen, Acai and Blueberry called Mandura. I’d love to hear your feedback about it after visiting http://ManduraOverview.com.
To Your Health,
Amy
