What I Eat On a Typical Day
11:30 am - August 18, 2008 | Posted By Linda in Linda's Daily StuffOne of the most common questions I get is what I actually eat everyday!
Some of you thought that eating raw is not easy because of food preparation.
Well, guess what, a raw lifestyle is so much more simpler, convenient and hassle-free than a cooked lifestyle. There are no oily pans to scrub, lower energy bills and lesser effort spent on food preparation.
Plus the great taste, non-compromised freshness and superb nutrient content, life can’t get better!
What I eat can vary - depending on my activity levels, work appointments and gourmet moods. On a day with intensive trainings, I tend to eat more to support higher energy requirements.
On a normal day work with lower activity levels, my menu looks something like this:
Breakfast
Green Smoothie
Mid-Morning Snack
Watermelon or any fruits available in the fridge
Lunch
Giant Mixed Salad with flax oil dressing
Afternoon Snack
Green Smoothie
Dinner
Another giant mixed salad (with denser vegetables like peas, sweet corn etc) with avocado miso dressing.
Evening Snack
2 hours before bedtime, I usually get hungry again. So depending on what’s available at the moment, I may eat a couple of oranges, melons, guava or any other fruit which is convenient to eat.
On a typical work-out day with long walks, runs and swims, my menu will be very much different.
Breakfast (pre work-out)
Power packed green smoothie made with high energy fruits like mangoes, lots of bananas or even jackfruits!
The greens are fantastic due to the vitamins and minerals, couple that with natural carbohydrates from fruits, I’ve got a nutrient packed energy food!
Snack (post work out)
Another power packed green smoothie.
Nothing replenishes energy, repairs tissues and picks me up faster than these magic potions!
Lunch
Huge mixed salad with half an avocado
Afternoon Snack
Mixed fruits
Dinner
Mixed salad
Gourmet treats from whatever is available in the fridge - coconut cake, peanut butter ice-cream, almond ice-cream etc
No evening snack on these days because I’m usually sleepy shortly after dinner (due to the work outs and higher fat intake).
You will see that my intake of dehydrated fruits are kept to a minimum because nothing substitutes the real stuff.
Unless the mood for gourmet is on, I try to keep dried fruits to a minimum because these are low in water content, concentrated in sugar and may stick to the teeth.
If not properly rinsed and if the body is deficient in calcium (or has problem assimilating calcium), tooth decay/deterioration may result.
But of course we must remember to spoil ourselves! I think indulgences are necessary and can add so much fun to life. Just moderate your intake, that’s all.
Are you getting the best out of your meals like I do?
