With technology evolving at lightening speed, we now spend more time in front of the computer and reading into wee hours. While it is meaningful to learn & upgrade, it is also important to take care of our beepers!

1) Wash the eyes with clean filtered water/spring water every night before sleep.

2) When eyestrain occurs from over computer exposure, shut the lights & close eyes under complete darkness for 10 min.

Stare at Natural Greenery everyday to help eye recovery!

3) Refrain from reading from reading under the following conditions:
-Moving vehicle
-Dim or insufficient light.

4) Strive to keep the following rules when reading:

-Hold the book at least 15 inches away from the eyes
-Always let the light fall on the book from your left
-Frequently blink the eyes when reading
-For every hour of reading, focus the eyes on an object far away for at least 2 min.

5) Never look at the blazing sun directly.

6) This is for the girls – reduce the frequency of applying Mascara on the eyelashes. The acts of applying & removing eye make our eyes weak & vulnerable to infections.

7) Hair dyes, or chemical treatments directly affect the eye functioning because they shoot right into the brain. If possible, eliminate the use of chemical dyes or products.

Staying Sane without the Sun

5:46 am - February 2, 2011 | Posted By Linda in Holistic Health & Wellness | 1 Comment

It has been an unusual marathon of rainy days in Singapore. In previous years this time, when Chinese New Year is just around the corner, the weather would have gradually switched to a warmer climate.

Have you noticed that your emotions change when you are not exposed to natural sunlight for a long time? It is not your imagination; sunlight contains Vitamin D, which is responsible for regulating more than 8,000 neurological functions in the body. When a person is cut off from natural sunlight for prolonged periods of time, symptoms like depression, anxiety, panic attacks and compromised immunity sets in.

For a person who eats mainly a diet of raw plant based foods, an alarm bell goes off in my head when I’m cut off from the sun for more than 24 hours.

Where is the Sun…

The Intricate Link between Food and Emotions

9:19 am - December 7, 2010 | Posted By Linda in Holistic Health & Wellness | No Comments

Have you ever wondered what goes on inside your body after you eat deep fried fast food?

Yesterday I was making my way to meet a friend, it was pouring and I left in my usual pair of sandals. Usually it serves me well and feels very comfortable; but yesterday I forgot I had 3 huge blisters on the sole of my right foot – a result from a long hike last weekend.

Comfortable was the very last feeling on my mind then! I limped, wobbled, straddled and even hopped along the street in the pouring rain, trying to find an angle to place my foot so that it would hurt less. By the time I reached the end of the street, I was feeling miserable, grumpy, irritated and even angry!

I rushed to the nearest store to buy plasters and stuck 3 pieces on each blister, ensuring that they would leave me alone for the rest of the night. Only then I felt back to normal again, my usual self, and in one moment I realized how closely linked our emotions are to our state of health.

Anybody in pain will find it difficult to experience joy and compassion during the moments of suffering.

Raw Food in Real World - Surviving Socialism

7:56 am - November 25, 2010 | Posted By Linda in Holistic Health & Wellness | No Comments

“That food is for hamster!” was the latest comment made by an old-time friend last week at a KTV lounge I went to. Singing has always been my passion and hobby, independent of my eating style. So even though I stopped drinking and smoking years ago, and eats living vegan foods, one thing remained unchanged is my love for singing and connecting with like-minded friends.

After he made the comment, we both laughed, and he reached into my bag of Sprouted Sea Salted Pumpkin seeds! I looked at him and asked “So, does this make you a beer-drinking hamster now?” and we both laughed louder.

“I am human; not a hamster!”

Compared to 4 years ago, raw foods in Asia and Singapore has become much more well accepted. That is a good thing for sure, because it shows that we are evolving at a rapid rate, growing and learning a lot by the day. And definitely things must be working out for many of us, which is the reason we stick on to the new healthy lifestyle, and sharing with people around us too.

At the same time, there are more and more confusing information on the internet and media. Almost each and every one of the raw food guru out there seem to have supporting and opposing readers. There are people who believes you should zero or not more than 10% fat, there are some who says you MUST take some fat, there are some who says Cacao is super, some says it is drug, some say fruits should form basic diet, some say fruits are bad, some say veg and greens are not sufficient to fulfill caloric intake and so on…
