Anorexics especially are at risk here because the bodies are most likely under nourished from the years of starving. This is also one major reason why many Anorexics turn Bulimic in later years. Malnourishment in cells lead to cravings, over-eating & bingeing. After bingeing, the person feels guilty & force him/herself to throw up.

To start the person onto healing, nourishment is key. This is also very tricky because it’s a challenge to get Anorexics to eat. When certain vitamins/minerals, especially Essential Fatty Acids are missing from the body, depression can set in.

Eating Disorders - Part I

An Eating Disorder describes a condition of eating for a need other than the physical need.

Organisms need to consume substances for life & regeneration – plants take in sunlight & carbon dioxide, insects eat microorganisms and animals eat either plants or flesh for survival. Similarly, humans take in a variety of foods to support the physical body to grow, repair & regenerate.

The act of eating is necessary to strengthen & nourish the body. When the act of eating is to satisfy something else, say emotional, mental or physic needs, it can be termed as an eating disorder.

And how on earth did I manage to kick that for good?
