…continued from B12 Deficiency (I)

One of our readers wrote in to comment on the reliability of miso & seaweeds as a source of B12.

In my reply, I wrote that this article was not meant to be an ultimate solution, but rather aimed at creating more awareness and light amongst the confusing/conflicting sea of nutritional information.

Raw Food Diet: Vitamin B12 Deficiency and Solutions (I)

Most vegan diets are frowned upon because of the Vitamin B12 controversy. From all the angles of anti-veganism, this is probably the most common concern.

Vitamin B12, abundant in high quality animal products, is a nutrient which many medical doctors claim to be difficult for vegetarians to obtain.

Some experts advocate that eating organic produces naturally gives us sufficient B12 - because there are minuscule bio-organisms dwelling on the stem tips/stalks of the produce. Conventional produces do not serve this purpose since the chemical pesticides already killed off the micro-organisms. Although many people may balk at the idea of consuming insects, it helps to be aware that humans share 99% of our DNA with Chimpanzee & Bonobos - and these fellows thrive on a natural diet of Greens, Fruit, some nuts/seeds PLUS a small percentage of insects! :)

What Is B12?
B12 is a nutrient produced only by micro-organisms, and is found in a variety of animal and certain plant sources. People with healthy intestines also produce large amounts of B12 in their colons.

Some of you thought that eating raw is not easy because of food preparation.

Well, guess what, a raw lifestyle is so much more simpler, convenient and hassle-free than a cooked lifestyle. There are no oily pans to scrub, lower energy bills and lesser effort spent on food preparation.
